A few years ago, our team was approached by an owner, who was keen to have a yacht built that would entirely fit his expectations. Searching a yacht for fast cruising in the Baltic sea the Judel/Vrolijk design office just had the right plans on offer: A yacht resembling a flat-out racer sporting all carbon structures, mast and sails while being equipped with a decent cruising interior. As the yacht’s purpose was to be sailed by a shorthanded crew in the Baltic sea, depth was a crucial design issue. The solution was a lifting keel, enabling the crew to reduce the depth from 3.10 m to 1.85 via the push of a button. This led to a very stiff and fast yacht that wasn’t restrained to a correlating overall depth. Years later, the owner still is sailing his yacht with pleasure, making heads turn wherever the yacht is seen.
